Anton Webern - Himmelfahrt (Dehmel Lieder)

A recording by Fleur Strijbos (soprano) and Simon De Paepe (piano) of Himmelfahrt (1908). The third song of the Dehmel Lieder by Anton Webern.

Webern made a transition to atonality. What this actually means is that Webern frees himself of classical tonality in a new system where every word and feeling is painted out in the music. The music is sensual, romantic and already a bit contemporary. (Note: this is not yet twelve-tone technique)

Lied: Himmelfahrt

Cycle: Fünf Lieder nach Gedichten von Richard Dehmel

Composer: Anton Webern

Recording Location: Blauwe Zaal, Kunstcampus DeSingel, Antwerpen

Robert Schumann - Meine Rose (Op. 90, No. 2)
