Fleur Strijbos

Fleur Strijbos is a Belgian soprano known for her warm, emotionally nuanced timbre and compelling interpretations of classical music. She has a strong affinity for recital and Lied repertoire, valuing the intimacy and honesty that this music invites.

Fleur Strijbos received her formal training at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp under the mentorship of soprano Anne Cambier, and earned highest distinction for her Master’s recital before continuing her studies with Barbara Bonney at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Currently, Fleur is an Artist in Residence at the Music Chapel Queen Elisabeth in Belgium, where she works with renowned artists Sophie Koch and Stéphane Degout to refine her artistry.

In 2024, the Belgian classical radio station Klara featured Fleur Strijbos in its De Twintigers series, showcasing her as one of the most promising young voices of her generation. She has also been distinguished as a Young Talent by several major music festivals and programs, including the Flanders LiedFest (Antwerp Liedfest), Ghent Festival Flanders, and Prima La Musica under conductor Dirk Brossé. Fleur has also achieved notable success in competitions, winning First Prize at the Concours Lyrique International Bell’Arte in Belgium (2024) and Third Prize at the Symphonies d’Automne International Singing Competition in Mâcon, France (2023).

Her performance highlights include appearances at Flagey in Brussels, Opera Ballet Vlaanderen in Antwerp, the Gran Teatro Puccini in Italy, Teatro Zoco in Chile, and the Royal Palace of Brussels. On the concert stage, she has appeared as a soprano soloist in masterworks such as Mozart’s Requiem and Fauré’s Requiem (performing the Pie Jesu solo), as well as in contemporary pieces like Marinus De Jong’s Proverbia Bruegheliana and Dan Forrest’s Jubilate Deo.

As a recitalist, Fleur Strijbos excels in art song. Her repertoire ranges from German Romantic Lieder to French melodies, and Spanish canciones. She is particularly devoted to Belgian art song: she actively champions the music of Belgian composers, programming works by composers such as August De Boeck, Alain Craens, Noah Senden and Piet Swerts to share the rich Belgian musical heritage with a broader audience.

Chamber music plays a central role in Fleur’s artistic life. In 2022, she co-founded a Lied duo with pianist Babette Craens; the pair were selected for the prestigious Udo Reinemann International Masterclasses in Brussels and reached the semi-finals of Klara’s Supernova chamber music competition in 2023. That same year, they also became Artists of Vrienden van het Lied, the renowned Dutch song society promoting art song. Additionally, Fleur formed Duo Leora in 2024 with classical guitarist Emma Wills, exploring the intimate dialogue between voice and guitar. The duo made its debut at the Walden Festival in Brussels (broadcast by Radio Klara) and is featured on Emma Wills’ 2025 album Serenades of Spain.

For two years (2022–2023), Fleur Strijbos was an Artist in Residence of SWUK Vlaanderen, a Belgian arts foundation whose generous support helped kick-start her career. With SWUK’s continued support, she is now preparing to record her debut Lieder album alongside Babette Craens.
